MPA Confirms New Chair and 2025 Board Appointments

15 Dec

Following the Magazine Publishers Association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting, the MPA is pleased to confirm the appointment of a new Chair and the board members for the year ahead.

After several years in the role, Nicholas Burrowes has stepped down as Chair. His tenure spanned a period of significant change for the magazine sector, and the Association thanks him for his leadership and commitment during that time. Nicholas will continue to support the MPA as a board member.

The Association is pleased to announce that Stuart Dick, General Manager of Are Media New Zealand, has been elected as the new Chair of the Magazine Publishers Association. Stuart is a highly regarded media executive with deep experience across commercial strategy, operations, and audience development. His leadership in revitalising major New Zealand magazine brands, strengthening digital performance, and rebuilding advertiser confidence positions him well to guide the MPA at a pivotal moment for the industry.

As the media landscape continues to evolve, magazines remain uniquely placed to deliver trusted local voices, strong editorial brands, and highly engaged audiences. Stuart’s appointment reflects the MPA’s focus on ensuring the sector continues to tell that story clearly and confidently.

The AGM also confirmed the following board appointments for 2025:

Cathy Parker, Adrenaline Publishing (re-elected Deputy Chair)
Sarah Perriam-Lampp, CountryWide Media
James Frankham, Kowhai Media
Kimberley Dixon, The Intermedia Group
David Atkins, Soar Communications Group
Tony Edwards, Are Direct
Nicholas Burrowes, The Pluto Group Limited

Together, the board brings a broad mix of experience across independent, trade, specialist, and large-scale publishing, alongside distribution and commercial operations. This diversity of perspectives will support the MPA’s work advocating for magazine publishers and strengthening the long-term health of the sector.

The MPA acknowledges the continued commitment of publishers across New Zealand who produce high-quality magazines in a challenging operating environment. Ongoing engagement, feedback, and participation from members will remain central as the Association sets its priorities for the year ahead.
